# Experiment and Store Settings

Store-wide experiment, tracking, and store behavior settings in Elevate A/B Testing, with each default and when to change it.

***

These are store-wide settings that control how Elevate A/B Testing runs experiments on your store, tracks visitors, and behaves on your storefront. Most stores never need to change them. Change one only when you have a specific reason.

To open them, go to **Settings**, then **Experiments settings** or **Store Setup**.

### Experiments settings

Go to **Settings**, then **Experiments settings**.

#### What does Exclude Google Shopping Traffic do?

**Exclude Google Shopping Traffic** keeps visitors who arrive from Google Shopping out of experiments. Elevate A/B Testing cannot change the prices shown on Google Shopping, so during a price experiment those visitors could see one price on Google Shopping and a different price on your store. Excluding them avoids that mismatch and the data discrepancies it causes.

It is on by default. Keep it on if you run price experiments and advertise on Google Shopping.

#### What does Enable Split URL Conflict Detection do?

**Enable Split URL Conflict Detection** prevents you from launching a Split URL experiment that overlaps with an experiment that is already running. Overlapping experiments send the same visitors through two changes at once, so neither result can be trusted.

It is on by default. Keep it on. Turn it off only if you fully understand the implications.

#### What does Enable Product Conflict Detection do?

**Enable Product Conflict Detection** prevents you from launching a Page, Price, or Product Group experiment that targets a product already used by another running experiment. Overlapping experiments on the same product produce unreliable results.

It is on by default. Keep it on. Turn it off only if you fully understand the implications.

#### What is the Default preview product?

**Default preview product** is the product used when you preview an experiment. By default it is set to Auto, and Elevate A/B Testing picks a product automatically. To always preview with a specific product, select **Select Product** and choose one.

### Tracking settings

Go to **Settings**, then **Store Setup**, then **Tracking**.

#### What does Disable Note Attributes do?

**Disable Note Attributes** turns off the cart note attributes Elevate A/B Testing uses as one of several ways to track visitors. It is off by default, so note attributes are used. Turning them off does not affect the accuracy of your experiment data.

Some experiments depend on note attributes:

| Experiment | Needs note attributes |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------- |
| Price experiments on Shopify Plus stores that use the cart transformation function | Yes |
| Advanced Price experiments | Yes |
| Shipping experiments | Yes |
| Checkout experiments | Yes |

If you disable note attributes, those experiments cannot run. Pause any running price, shipping, or checkout experiments before you change this setting.

#### What does Enable Order Tagging do?

**Enable Order Tagging** is off by default. When on, it adds the variation ID as a tag on every order that came from an experiment variation. You can then see in your Shopify admin which orders came from which variation. Turn it on if you want to filter or report on orders by variation in Shopify.

#### What does Disable A/B test persistence across FB/IG browser switches do?

Visitors from Facebook and Instagram often open your store in the app's built-in browser, then switch to their regular browser. By default, Elevate A/B Testing adds tracking parameters to the URL for visitors arriving from Facebook or Instagram (in-app browsers or `fbclid` links), so they stay in the same variation after switching browsers.

Turn **Disable A/B test persistence across FB/IG browser switches** on to skip adding those parameters. This is useful if the extra parameters interfere with theme redirects, third-party scripts, or geo or market routing on your store.

The trade-off: with it turned on, some Facebook and Instagram visitors may be assigned to a different variation when they switch browsers.

#### What does Require Consent Before Storing Visitor IDs do?

**Require Consent Before Storing Visitor IDs** makes Elevate A/B Testing wait until a visitor accepts analytics in your store's cookie consent banner before it stores the visitor's IDs. It is off by default, on every Elevate plan. The setting saves automatically when you switch it.

With the setting on, Elevate A/B Testing holds back three items until the visitor consents: the `eabUserId` cookie (visitor ID), the `basicEabUserId` localStorage entry (visitor ID), and the `eabSessionId` sessionStorage entry (session ID). Other Elevate A/B Testing cookies are still set before consent, including the `ABTL` and `ABAU` cookies that record which variation a visitor is in. See [What Cookies Does Elevate A/B Testing Set?](/elevate-helpcenter/analyze/tracking/cookies-and-consent.md) for the full list.

What stays the same with the setting on:

* Visitors are still assigned to a variation and keep it on every page and on later visits. In a price experiment they pay the price they were shown.
* Visitors who decline consent are still shown the experiment.
* Orders are still matched to their variation, including orders from visitors who have not consented. Order tags and note attributes work as before.

How Elevate A/B Testing detects consent:

* It reads consent from Shopify's Customer Privacy API. That covers Shopify's own cookie banner and banner apps that record consent with Shopify. A banner that does not record consent with Shopify looks like no consent, so the IDs are never stored.
* It checks consent when each page loads. If a visitor accepts partway through a visit, the IDs are stored from the next page.

Turn it on only if your experiments were created after September 29, 2026. Those experiments use Shopify server events and count visitors by Shopify's own visitor ID, so the setting does not change their visitor counts. Experiments created before that date count visitors by Elevate A/B Testing's visitor ID. With the setting on, they cannot follow a visitor who has not consented from page to page, and their visitor counts and conversion rates become unreliable. Create new experiments to replace them before you turn the setting on. See [Web Pixel](/elevate-helpcenter/analyze/tracking/web-pixel.md) for how server events and the web pixel split tracking.

The setting does not cover headless storefronts built with Hydrogen, Next.js, or Remix.

#### What is the IP Exclusion List?

The **IP Exclusion List** removes visits from specific IP addresses, such as your team or internal servers, from experiment reports. Select **Add IP Address** to add one. Add your team's IP addresses so your own browsing does not skew results.

### Store Behavior settings

Go to **Settings**, then **Store Setup**, then **Store Behavior**.

#### What does Use Shopify Geolocation for Country Targeting do?

By default, country targeting uses Shopify's localization cookie to work out a visitor's country. **Use Shopify Geolocation for Country Targeting** switches to Shopify's Customer Privacy API, which detects the visitor's country from their IP address.

Turn it on if most visitors land on your store's default market, so the localization cookie does not reflect their real country and your country-targeted experiments include the wrong visitors.

#### What does Force Visitors Back to Published Theme do?

By default, Elevate A/B Testing sends a visitor back to your published theme only if it has a record (a cookie) showing it placed them on a theme experiment variation. Visitors previewing an unpublished theme some other way are left alone.

Turn **Force Visitors Back to Published Theme** on to send any visitor served an unpublished theme back to your published theme, when no theme experiment is running for that theme. This includes visitors Elevate A/B Testing did not enroll.

| Turn it on when | Leave it off when |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Visitors get stuck on an old variation after a theme experiment is paused and their tracking cookie is missing, for example because they cleared cookies | You intentionally share unpublished theme preview links with shoppers |

### Brand Colors

Go to **Settings**, then **Store Setup**, then **Brand Colors**.

**Brand Colors** sets the colors Elevate A/B Testing uses in **AI Test Ideas** and in ready-made components you add to your store. New components use these colors automatically, so they match your store's design.

| Color | Used for |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Primary Color** | Main brand color for buttons and accents |
| **Secondary Color** | Supporting color that complements the primary color |
| **Accent Color** | Contrasting color for highlights and calls to action |
| **Text Color** | Body text and content |
| **Border Color** | Borders, dividers, and outlines |
| **Background Color** | Main page background |
| **Button Background** | Button background |
| **Button Text** | Button text |

Enter a hex value for each color, or select **Regenerate from Store** to pull the colors from your store again.
