# Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Integration

Connect Google Analytics 4 to Elevate A/B Testing to send experiment events to GA4 and create one audience per variation. Currently in Beta.

***

The Google Analytics 4 integration sends Elevate A/B Testing experiment events to your GA4 property, tagged with the experiment and variation each visitor saw. Elevate A/B Testing also creates one GA4 audience per variation, so you can compare variations in your GA4 reports or use the audiences elsewhere in Google.

The integration is in **Beta** and is off by default. This is a one-time setup. Once connected, it covers every experiment you run.

### What does Elevate A/B Testing send to GA4?

Elevate A/B Testing sends four events, only for visitors who are in an experiment:

| Event | Sent when |
| -------------------- | --------------------------- |
| `eab_page_view` | The visitor views a page |
| `eab_add_to_cart` | The visitor adds to cart |
| `eab_begin_checkout` | The visitor starts checkout |
| `eab_purchase` | The visitor places an order |

Each event carries the experiment and variation IDs, not their names. Purchase events carry no revenue, so use your Elevate A/B Testing reports for revenue by variation.

When the first event arrives, Elevate A/B Testing creates these in your GA4 property:

* Three custom dimensions: **EAB Experiment Variant ID**, **EAB Test ID**, and **EAB Test Variant**
* One audience for each variation

Events are sent from the moment you connect. Nothing from before is backfilled. Elevate A/B Testing sends data to GA4 but does not import anything from it.

### Before you start

| Requirement | Detail |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| A GA4 property for your store | It needs a web data stream. Elevate A/B Testing uses the property's first web data stream. |
| A Google account with edit access | Elevate A/B Testing asks for edit access to Google Analytics when you connect |

You can connect one GA4 property per store.

### Connect Google Analytics 4

1. In Elevate A/B Testing, open **Integrations** under **Configure** in the sidebar.
2. On the **Google Analytics 4** card, select **Connect**. The **Connect to Google Analytics 4** dialog has four steps: Auth, Account, Property, and Confirm.
3. **Auth.** Select **Authorize Google Analytics** and sign in with Google. When you return, Elevate A/B Testing shows "Google Analytics authentication successful".
4. **Account.** Select **Connect** next to the Google Analytics account that contains your store's property.
5. **Property.** Select **Connect** next to your store's GA4 property. Elevate A/B Testing sets up the measurement ID and API secret for you, so there is nothing to type.
6. **Confirm.** Check the account, property, and measurement ID, then select **Enable Integration**.

When connected, the card shows **Active**.

### Change the property or disconnect

* To use a different property, select **Change Property** on the card, choose the property, then select **Update Property**.
* To stop sending events, select **Disconnect** on the card and confirm. This cannot be undone, so you would need to connect again from the start.

### Troubleshooting

#### "No web data stream found for this property."

The property has no web data stream for Elevate A/B Testing to send events to. In GA4, go to **Admin**, then **Data Streams**, then **Add stream**, create a web stream, then connect again.

#### "Data Collection Acknowledgement required."

GA4 needs you to accept its data collection terms before audiences can be created. Select **Open Data Collection in Google Analytics**, accept the acknowledgement, then connect again.

#### I do not see any Elevate A/B Testing events in GA4

Events are only sent for visitors in a running experiment, and only since you connected. Check that an experiment is **Running** and has traffic, and allow for GA4's normal processing delay.
