Price Experiment FAQs

Common questions about price testing in Elevate A/B Testing, covering duplicates, discounts, checkout, plans, limits, and what happens when a test ends.

Does price testing duplicate my products?

No. Elevate changes the price on your existing product, on any Shopify plan. Nothing is duplicated and nothing is left behind when the experiment ends.

Will customers be charged the test price?

Yes. A visitor in a price experiment sees the test price and is charged that same price at checkout.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. Price testing works on any Shopify plan.

You do need a Standard or Premium Elevate plan. Price experiments are not available on Basic. Testing prices in more than one currency requires Premium, unless your store exceeds 30,000 orders per month.

Do discount codes still work?

Yes. Discount codes and automatic discounts apply on top of the test price. A ten percent code on a test price of 24.00 charges 21.60.

Can I run a sale during a price experiment?

Run the sale as a discount, not as a change to your catalogue prices.

If you edit catalogue prices while an experiment is running, your control price moves and your variation prices do not. The comparison stops being valid and the result is unusable.

Will the same visitor always see the same price?

Yes. Assignment is sticky. A visitor who returns days later sees the price they saw before.

Why are my visitor numbers lower than my store traffic?

Visitors from Google Ads are excluded from price experiments by default, so the price in your ad always matches the price on your landing page. Audience targeting filters also reduce the pool.

How many products can one experiment cover?

Up to 500 products and 10,000 product variants, with 2 to 5 variations.

Can I run several price experiments at once?

Yes, as long as they do not include the same products. If they overlap, turn on traffic isolation for one of them.

Can I test the compare at price?

Yes. Autofill offers Compare Increase and Compare Decrease, and the CSV upload accepts a Compare At Price column. You can test a strikethrough without changing what you charge.

Why does my first experiment need review?

The first price experiment on your store is checked by Elevate's technical support team, to confirm prices update consistently everywhere they appear. It typically takes 2 to 12 hours. Later experiments launch straight away.

Can I test on a headless storefront?

No. Price testing requires a Shopify theme. On Hydrogen, Next.js, or Remix you can run Split URL, Content, and Custom Code experiments.

What happens to a cart when the experiment ends?

It is recalculated at the catalogue price. If your test price was lower, a shopper who left items in their cart sees the price go up on their next visit.

If that matters for your store, implement the winning price at the same time you end the experiment.

Can I undo implementing a winner?

No. Elevate does not keep a copy of your previous prices. Export your prices from Shopify before you apply a winning variation.

Does implementing a winner set my prices in every currency?

No. It sets a single price per variant. If you tested market specific prices, set those in Shopify afterwards.

Why does my conversion rate look better on the cheaper variation?

Because a lower price almost always converts better. That is arithmetic, not a finding.

Read price experiments on Revenue per visitor or Profit per visitor. A variation that converts better and earns less has not won.

Why can I not see profit numbers?

Product Costs are not set up. Add your cost data and profit reporting becomes available.

Do subscription prices work?

Yes, with Recharge. No other subscription app is supported at this time.

Can I test on a development store?

Yes. Install Elevate on the development store and contact support to enable access for testing.
