# Preview and QA a Product Image Experiment

Pre-launch checklist for product image experiments in Elevate A/B Testing, covering image quality, gallery behaviour, and where else product images appear.

***

Work through this in **Preview**, before launching. Images are the most visible thing on a product page, so a broken variation is obvious to visitors and expensive.

### Image check

| Check | What passes |
| ---------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Correct images assigned | Each variation shows the images you intended, on the products you intended |
| Quality | Nothing blurry, pixelated, or stretched |
| Cropping | Nothing important cut off, on any aspect ratio your theme uses |
| Consistency with the control | Dimensions, background, and framing match unless the difference is the thing you are testing |
| Order is correct | The intended image is the **Default Image**, and the rest follow in the order you set |

If you generated images with AI, look at them properly rather than glancing. The product has to be recognisably as what the customer receives.

### Gallery check

| Check | What passes |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Mobile gallery | Swipe through every image on a phone. Most image experiments matter most here. |
| Desktop gallery | Click through thumbnails and confirm each loads |
| Zoom | If your theme zooms on hover or tap, it works on the variation images |
| Variant switching | If images are tied to product variants, selecting a variant still shows the right image |

Variant linked images are the most common failure. If your theme swaps the gallery when a colour is selected, check that behavior on every variation.

### Scope check

| Check | What passes |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Right products | The experiment runs on the products you selected and no others |
| Across the set | If you selected many products, check several of them, not just the first |
| Elsewhere on the site | Check whether the first image also appears on collection pages, search, and cart, and whether it changed there too |

That last one matters for interpretation. If the variation image appears on the collection page, the experiment is also testing the thumbnail that gets someone to the product page in the first place.

### Tracking check

| Check | What passes |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| Events are arriving | Viewing a tested product page produces an event |
| Correct variation recorded | The event records the images you actually saw |
| Add to cart is recorded | Adding the product produces a corresponding event |

Experiment data is cached and refreshes every two hours. Select the refresh control next to **Experiment Settings** to pull live data.
