Price Testing - Getting Started
Learn how Price Testing can optimize your store's pricing strategy for maximum revenue.
Price testing lets you run controlled experiments with different price points on your products, using real visitors and real purchases. Instead of guessing what prices will work, you test them — and Elevate tells you exactly which prices maximize your revenue, conversion rate, or profit.
How Does Price Testing Work?
Elevate splits your visitors between your current price and one or more test prices. Each group of visitors sees a different price for the same product, and Elevate tracks how each price point performs across conversions, revenue, average order value, and more.
Once enough data is collected, the Bayesian statistical model identifies which price is the winner — giving you a data-backed answer instead of a gut feeling. For details on how results are evaluated, see Statistical Significance.
Two Approaches to Price Testing
Elevate offers two methods for running price tests. Which one you use depends on your Shopify plan.
Native Price Testing (Shopify Plus)
Uses Shopify's Cart Transform function to dynamically adjust prices at checkout. This is the cleaner, more scalable approach:
No duplicate products — prices are changed directly on your existing products
Clean product URLs — your original product structure stays intact
Less setup — no reviews to copy, no third-party apps to sync
Multi-product support — test prices across large product catalogs in one experiment
Cart Transform is a Shopify platform feature that's only available to Shopify Plus stores. This is a restriction set by Shopify, not by Elevate.
Duplicate Products (All Shopify Plans)
Creates duplicate products with different prices, then splits traffic between the original and the duplicate. This method works on any Shopify plan:
Works on all plans — no Shopify Plus requirement
Full testing functionality — same statistical engine, same reporting
Requires more setup — you'll need to manage duplicate products, copy reviews, and sync third-party integrations
